I was teaching Science to some impressional(not)kids, and i ws trying to explain the gravity of the "balance of nature". Since they weren't really getting how important the situation was.....i felt i needed to change tack.
Here is what i came up with.. (censored version....for children)
The Balance of Nature! When the population one of the three types of living things, consumer, producer, and decomposer, becomes less or more, the other two types of living things, find surviving hard because they are dependent on the other living things.
For example, the producers have stopped producing for some reason and production output is cut. The consumers have less to consume and therefore start dying out since there is nothing to survive on. The decomposers in turn have way too much to decompose and get stressed out and can’t cope.
If the consumer population starts dwindling, the produce produced by the producers becomes way too much and there is no one to eat it so the value of the produce goes down and the producers starting squabbling in frustration and anger. The decomposers get bored because they don’t have much too do, and only start enjoying themselves when the producers start throttling each other.
If the decomposers population gets decreased, the consumers and producers find themselves in the sticky situation of having live with the ill effects of no one to put out the trash. Finding their smelly environment degenerating beyond what they can handle they all commit suicide thus ending the environment all together.
From this true to life example we see how dependent the various living things upon each other and how pitiful their lives would be without the physical, emotional and moral support they glean from each other.
